Mrs. Otto C. (Ruth) Larsen, 84, died Sunday (Dec. 13, 1987) in the Akron City Convalescent Care Center, after a brief illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron with Rev. Peter Peterson officiating. Gary Tucker, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Going Home", accompanied by Eric Banks, organist. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home. A service by Vesper Chapter 61 Order of Eastern Star was held Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Allen Vander Helm, Wayne Sheveland, Wayne "Herky" Von Hagel, Wendell Snow, Gail Hemmingsen, and Lee Harris.

Mrs. Larsen, the former Ruth M. Carlson, was born Jan. 29, 1903 to Oscar and Viola Peters Carlson in Mineral Point, Wise. She moved to Plankington, S.D. and attended rural schools. She married Otto C. Larsen, May 9, 1923 in Plankington. The couple moved to Appleton, Minn, and to Akron in 1927. Mr. Larsen died May 18, 1972. Mrs. Larsen was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist church and
United Methodist Women. She served many positions on the church board and held various offices in UMW. She was an active member of the Embroidery Club, past president of the American Legion auxiliary, and World War I Veterans auxiliary of Le Mars. She was treasurer of Order of Eastern Star in Akron for more than 20 years and a former officer of the Akron Senior Citizen club.

Survivors include a son Cyril C. Larsen of Akron; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Elsie Mae) Wetzeler of Spirit Lake, and Mrs. John (Elaine) Dierup of Sergeant Bluff; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Hulda) Culton of Crestline, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Otto, and one daughter, June Bellshe.
