Thatcher, John Norcross 1884 - 1970

John Norcross Thatcher passed away at the Akron Community Hospital on Friday evening, June 5th, after a lingering illness, at the age of 85 years.

He was born near Raymond, Nebraska, on December 31, 1884. His parents were Isaac and Sarah Mitchell Thatcher. John worked on farms in the state until he grew to manhood. He then took up carpentering and contracting, working there until he came to Akron in January of 1913, where he has since made his home. On December 20, 1916, he was united in marriage with Vera Lucille Adams in Akron. In the spring of 1941, the family moved to a farm southeast of town, where John farmed and continued to work at his trade for a number of years.

Because of his failing health, he and his wife moved back into Akron about 3 years ago. He was a member of the West Side Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Alton Foster (Winifred) of Orlando, Fla.; Florence Barrett of Hollywood, Calif., Mrs. Harold Schadow (Ruth) of San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Earl Lindstrom (Lois) of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Richard Epperly (Julie) of Grand Island, Nebr.; and three sons, Raymond, of St. Paul, Minn., Stanley of Redwood City, Calif., and John Jr. of Rockford, HI. Also mourning his passing are 24 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.

He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a strong servant of his Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.

"And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them." Rev. 14:13.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 9, at the Westside Church of Christ, Pastor Dean Orris officiating.

Casket Bearers were: Harold Scott, Roy Carlson, Robert Klemme, William Hoffman, Harold, Moffatt and Embert Klemme.

Burial was in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, under, the direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home.
