Rite Held Tuesday For Claus F. Kroeger. Longtime Resident Here Dies at His Home December 18; Age 90 Years.
Funeral services for Claus F. Kroeger, 90, longtime resident here, who passed away in his home Saturday, December 18, were held at Christ Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon with burial in the Remsen community cemetery.
Mr. Kroeger, at home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Sonnichsen, had been in failing health several years, due principally to his advanced age and general feebleness. He had been a sickroom patient three months and received, besides excellent medical care , the constant ministrations of his daughter and her husband. The end came at 2:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon.
Claus Frederick Kroeger was born February 7, 1864, in Schleswig Holstein, Germany, and came to the United States and directly to Remsen as a young man of 24, in 1888. On December 13, 1889, he was united in marriage to Anna Gaden. The wedding ceremony took place in Le Mars and the couple immediately settled on a farm near Remsen. In 1900 they bought a farm eight miles south of town and lived there until their retirement in 1914.
The couple retired to the deceased man’s late home at the northeast edge of Remsen which Mr. Kroeger shared with his children until death overtook him. His wife passed away in 1942.
Mr. Kroeger, who lived in the Remsen community 66 years, was widely known over this area and was held in highest esteem by his many friends who joined the family in its sorrow and came in large number for the final sacred rites.
Moeller funeral home had charge of the funeral arrangements. The body was at the funeral home until shortly before the hour of final rites, which were conducted in Christ Lutheran church by its pastor, the Rev. Alfred Christiansen.
With Mrs. D.A. Ehlert accompanying at the organ, vocal sections were given by Mrs. George Bottjen, Jr., and Mrs. Alfred Christiansen, singing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus, “ “Abide with Me” and “There is an Hour of Peaceful Rest.”
Survivors are the daughter, Mrs. Sonnichsen and her husband; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Leonard Sonnichsen, Elmer Kroeger, Loren Behrens, Kenneth Fokken, Carl Fokken, Jr., and William Fokken. – family news clipping.
