Arthur C. Wilcox departed this life last Sunday, January 11, 1970, at the Hospital in Yankton, S.D., following an illness of long duration. He was 82 years of age.

Arthur Charles Wilcox was born in Union County, S.D., March 27, 1887. During his youth he worked on farms in the Richland area and had many clear, interesting memories of those days. At a marriage service in Vermillion, S.D., April 4, 1917, he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Johnson. They drove to Vermillion by means of horse and buggy, we understand. They made their homes on farms in Union County northwest of Akron and spent the greater part of their lives on the farm now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fickbohm. They moved into the town of Akron in 1944.

Arthur and Julia transferred their membership from Brule Creek Church to Union Creek Church in August of 1930. All through the years since then Arthur was an active member of his church in every way that he could. He served terms on the Union Creek Board of Administration and was actively serving in this way when the present Pastor was called. Arthur was a kind of person who did whatever he could for his church and for others wherever he was needed. He was known for being an active, hard-working person in whatever he was doing. He would never spare himself if he could help.

Among those who survive his departure are a number of relatives, including nieces and nephews. Among those who preceded him in death were 3 brothers, 5 sisters and his wife, Julia, who died in August, 1959.

The funeral service in his memory was in Union Creek Lutheran Church Thursday afternoon, January 15, with Pastor David J. Roy, officiating. "Ivory Palaces" and "In the Garden" were sung by Audrey Ericson and Dennis Hultgren, accompanied by Alveda Fickbohm, organist. Ray Ericson, Henry Fickbohm, Lloyd Miller, Robert Root, Alvin Sommervold and Max Vreugdenhil served as casket bearers. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
