Little Franklin Mathern is seriously ill with an attack of pneumonia. – LSWS, Fri Feb 6, 1914
Ed. Mathern and son, Franklin, met with an accident last week while coming from Le Mars. The horse became frightened at an automobile and shied, tipping the buggy over. Mr. Mathern received a sprained ankle and Franklin a few bruises on the face. - LSWS, Fri Dec 4, 1914

Note: The inscription on Franklin’s gravestone Is: “Franklin J., son of E.A. & M. M. Mathern; Dec 14, 1908; Jan. 17, 1915”. He is buried in the Remsen City Cemetery. He was 6 years old. His parents were Ed. A. and Minnie M. Mathern and they were living in Elgin Township in 1910. Any further information would be appreciated.

DAYS OF LONG AGO. Taken from The Bell-Enterprise Files of 23 Years Ago. Frank, the 6-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Mathern of Seney, died at the Le Mars hospital of Saturday, January 16 of diabetes. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Seney [Remsen] cemetery. The parents have the sympathy of their many Remsen friends. ˆ Remsen Bell-Enterprise, Thursday, Jan. 20, 1938.
