Miss Lena Benjegerdes died at her home in Remsen, Thursday afternoon, February 24, following a heart attack. She had been ill with a cold a few days. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, February 27, in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church with the Rev. Paul Wuebben officiating. Interment was in the Remsen cemetery. Pall bearers were Hans Borm, Adolph Witt, John NIlles, John Becker, L.H. Mohning and Will Fromme.
Lena Benjegerdes was born January 1, 1878, in Marion Township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Benjegerdes. She lived in Marion township until she went to Manly, Iowa, in 1907, to care for her uncle, Louis F. Meyer. He died in January 1948 and she returned in March 1948 to Remsen to make her home with her brother Dick and sister, Minnie.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mary Martens and Mrs. Anna Harnack of Garretson, S.D., and Minnie of Remsen and one brother, Dick of Remsen. She is also survived by three nieces and two nephews of Garretson, S.D. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers – Le Mars Sentinel, March 1, 1947, page 1.
