Remsen Bell-Enterprise: John H. Numsen, for fourteen years a resident of Remsen, died Wednesday evening at 5 o’clock after an illness of three weeks. Infirmities of old age was the direct cause of death. He was 79 years of age. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon with services at the home at 1 o’clock and at St. Paul’s church at 1:30. Interment will be made in the Remsen cemetery.
Deceased is survived by his wife and two children, who are: Henry Numsen of Remsen and Mrs. Wm. Selken of Hartley, Iowa. One son, Fred, precedes him in death seventeen years age.
He also leaves to mourn his death Peter Numsen of Alcester, S.D. and one sister, Mrs. Wilkins, also of Alcester. One brother, Fred, resides in Germany.
Mr. Numsen began failing in health two years ago but was able to be up and about until three weeks ago when he was forced to take to his bed and gradually lost strength. Hopes for his recovery were abandoned several weeks ago. – Le Mars Globe-Post, April 23, 1923, page 1.
