Mrs. Henry Sanow, 85, Remsen, died unexpectedly Friday (Sept. 9, 1977) at Sioux City St. Luke medical center.
Mrs. Sanow sustained a fractured hip two weeks ago and had been hospitalized since that time.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran church, Remsen. Rev. Allen Brutlag will officiate. Burial will be in Remsen City cemetery under direction of the Moeller funeral home.
Mrs. Sanow, the former Katherine Diercksen, ws born Oct. 22, 1891, in Germany. She was married June 6, 1911. The couple farmed south of Remsen until their retirement in 1957. Mr. Sanow died in 1960 when Mrs. Sanow continued to live on the farm with a son. In 1967 she moved into Remsen where she had since resided.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran church and the church’s ladies aid.
Survivors are three sons, Lester, William and Dale, all of Remsen; a brother, John, Le Mars; four sisters, Mrs. John (Martha) Klaschen, Kingsley; Mrs. Mary Klingbeil, Pierson; Mrs. Lillie Nelson, Cherokee; and Mrs. Minnie Miller, Sioux City. Also Ena Sampson and Carl Heesch who were raised in the Sanow home. There are 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Alma Wilhelmi, Le Mars.
Casketbearers will be Kenneth Maass, Ronald Klingbeil, Donald Klingbeil, Harlan Klingbeil, Emil Rumohr Jr and Clyde Schuttpelz.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Thill, Harold Presuhn, William Heesch, Karl Johnson, Elmer Guttner, Evert Groenhagen. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, Sept. 12, 1977.Correction:
A member of the Klingbeil family reported there was an error in the recent publication of the obituary of Mrs. Henry Sanow. They said Ena Sampson and Carl Heesch were raised in the Tom Diercksen home, not by Henry Sanow. – Thursday, September 15, 1977, page 24
