MRS. TONSFELDT IS CALLED. Well Known Remsen Woman Dies at Remsen Home.
Mrs. Anna Wilhelmina Tonsfeldt died at her home in Remsen last Friday, after a prolonged sickness.
Mrs. Tonsfeldt was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany, February 17, 1857, her maiden name being Heldt.
At the age of eleven years she came to the United States with her parents and settled in Benton county, Iowa, where she was married in 1873 to Heinrich Tonsfeldt, also a resident of Benton county. After living in that county for a number of years they moved to Sioux county in 1885, and broke and planted the virgin soil and were numbered among the pioneers of that then sparsely settled country.
Mr. Tonsfeldt died in 1903, his widow remaining on the farm for several years, after which she came to Remsen where she has ever since made her home. She is survived by four children: John, of White Salmon, Wash.; William, of Remsen; Mrs. Minnie Von Hacht, of Portland, Ore.; and Miss Ida Tonsfeldt, of Remsen. Five other sons and daughters are dead. She leaves also four brothers and two sisters to mourn her demise; John and Henry Heldt, of Everly, Iowa; Martin, in California; Fred, in Missouri; and Mrs. August Miller, of Keystone, Iowa; and Mrs. Lena Zauler, of North Platte, Neb. Five grandchildren also survive.
The funeral was held from the home Tuesday afternoon at 1 o’clock and at 1:30 from St. Paul’s Evangelical church, Rev. Hy. Relfschneider officiating.
Relatives from other towns who were present at the funeral were the following: Mrs. John Tonsfeldt, White Salman, Wash.; Mrs. August Miller and Will Miller, Keystone, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heldt and children, John Heldt and Mrs. Palmer Boyles, of Everly, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Heldt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heldt, Terrill, Iowa; Mrs. B.L Teadell and Mrs. H. C. Brunsted, Des Moines, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Gerht Miller, Lake Benton, Min.; and H.P. Tonsfeldt, Le Mars. – Le Mars Globe-Post, July 12, 1928, page 5.
