Death of Hans Pieper. Remsen Bell-Enterprise: Deceased was born September 23, 1837, at Olero Holstein, Germany. This place, which saw his youth, saw also a good part of his manhood. In 1864 he joined hands and fortune with Anna Scheluter. In 1868 he came to America, settling in Benton county, Iowa. This first marriage was blessed with eight children and was disrepated by the death of the wife and mother, March 16, 1879. In 1880 Mr. Pieper again joined marriage with Katharina Hoeck whom he leaves now a weeping widow with eleven children and sixteen grand children.
Mr. Pieper had been ailing for two years and last Friday week submitted to an operation which proved fatal. Deceased was well known in Benton and Plymouth counties and always thought of as a sturdy and reliable man. He was director of the German Savings Bank of this place.
The funeral took place Friday afternoon. Ceremonies at the home at 2 p.m. and at the Evangelical Lutheran Christ church. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, July 26, 1904, page 3.

REMSEN. From the Bell-Enterprise.
The funeral cortege of the late Hans Pieper was one of the largest ever seen in Remsen at Christ church. Rev. Brammer delivered an excellent sermon and the church choir rendered fine vocal music. The church was crowded to her fullest capacity. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, August 2, 1904, page 1.
