Accident Saturday claims Life of Niels Kloster
Niels A. Kloster, 78, of Remsen, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 1988 of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident near Remsen.
The Plymouth county sheriff’s department reported the accident occurred at about 9:20 a.m. 2 miles west and 1 mile south of Remsen.
Kloster was traveling east when his vehicle collided with a northbound vehicle, driven by Remsen veterinarian, Dr. Edward L. Henrich. The accident occurred at an unmarked intersection of two gravel roads.
Mr. Kloster was dead at the scene. Henrich was taken to Marian Health Center in Sioux City by the Remsen ambulance. He was treated and released.
Funeral services for Mr. Kloster were at 10”30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 at Christ Lutheran Church, Remsen. Rev. Lee Mentink officiated. Burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery under direction of the Moeller Funeral Home.
Mr. Kloster was born March 25, 1910 in Fredonia township, Plymouth county, the son of Thorwald and Anna Sophia (Nielsen) Kloster. He attended rural school in Plymouth county.
His marriage to E. Louise Albrecht took place on June 26, 1938 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Oyens. The couple farmed for several years in the Remsen area and he also did some custom farm work. In 1945 they moved to Oyens. He worked as an implement mechanic for 25 years with Schaaf’s Hardware in Remsen and privately for two years.
They moved to Remsen in 1960,. After his retirement in 1972 he was a bus driver for Marcus and later for Remsen-Union School for eight years. Mrs. Kloster died in 1984.
Mr. Kloster had been a member of Christ Lutheran Church since 1964 and was a former member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Oyens. He was a member of the Plymouth county fair board for 15 years and had been active with 4-H since 1924. He was also a member of the Remsen Booster Club, which promoted the livestock show in Remsen for many years during the annual Kid’s Days. He was also a member of the Siouxland Barbershop Chorus.
Surviving are four sons, Terry of Harlan, Vernon of Maha, Nebr., Vaugn of Manly, and Darwin of Sioux City; three daughters, Mrs. Bill (Ellen) Bohlken of Auburn, Nebr., and Mrs. Kenneth (Kathy) Palm of Kingwood, Texas and Mrs. Jerry (Darlene) Yovonie of Waukegan, Ill., 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers seven sisters and one grandson.
