Rites Thursday for Jack Kloster

Jack Kloster, 91, of Remsen, died Monday, Apr. 4, 1994, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars after an extended illness.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Apr. 7 at St. Paul Lutheran church with Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery under direction of the Moeller Funeral Home.

Mr. Kloster was born Nov. 13, 1902, in Fredonia Township, Plymouth County, the son of Christian P. and Christina (Nielsen) Kloster. He lived on a farm in the Remsen and Oyens area and attended country school in Fredonia Township. From April 1932 until September 1942 he was employed by Plymouth County as a road maintainer operator.

He served in the U.S. Navy for three years from September 1942 until September 1945. He was a chief petty officer aboard a mine sweeper in the south Pacific.

He returned to Plymouth County in 1945 and farmed until 1970, when he retired and moved into Remsen. The last number of years he spent the winters with his nephew and family in Phoenix, Ariz. He had made his home with a nephew and his wife in Le Mars since August 1993.

Mr. Kloster was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Remsen, and the VFW of Remsen.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Tina Miller and Herlig Nielsen; and two brothers, Nick and Harold.

Pallbearers were Gaylan Miller, Doug Schultz, Terry Kloster, Dean Mohning, Greg Jelken and Robert Andersen. The funeral was conducted by Alfred F. Moeller, Jr
