Bert Reeves

Bert Reeves, 81, lifelong Plymouth county resident and resident of LeMars for the past 20 years, passed away Thursday afternoon at the Sacred Heart hospital. He had been a patient there only recently but had been in failing health for several weeks.

Mr. Reeves was born March 7, 1878 near Seney. He was a retired farmer. His marriage to Cynthia Heemstra took place August 5, 1904
(error--August 9, 1905) at Orange City. His father was the late Arthur Reeves. His wife passed away in 1930.

Funeral was held Sunday, January 31 and burial was at the Seney cemetery under direction of the Mauer funeral home in LeMars.

Survivors include the following children: Lawrence and Ernest of Paullina; Mabel, Mrs. Ronald Parks of Chino Valley, Arizona; Myrtle, Mrs. Lowell Parks of Remsen and Glenn Reeves of Kingsley. There are 18 surviving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers, William of LeMars and C. W. Reeves of Sioux City and two sisters, Mrs. Martha Cook of LeMars and Mrs. Robert Chambers of Watertown, South Dakota.

RITES SUNDAY AT SENEY--FOR BERT H. REEVES

Funeral services for Bert H. Reeves, 81, LeMars resident the last 20 years who died Thursday at Sacred Heart hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Seney Methodist church. Rev. V. D. Bundy will offficiate. Burial will be in the Seney cemetery under direction of Mauer's funeral home.

Eulogy:

Wilbert Reeves, a resident of LeMars and a member of the Free Methodist Church there, passed away at 1:30 P.M. January 28, 1960 at the age of 81 years, 10 months, 21 days. Being a diabetic and an asthmatic, Mr. Reeves has not had the best of health for years, but was not seriously ill until the last three weeks. The end came peacefully at the LeMars hospital.

Mr. Reeves was born on March 7, 1878 near Seney. He attended Seney School. On August 9, 1905, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Heemstra. The couple farmed in the Seney and LeMars area, and were happily blessed with five children. The wife and mother passed away in June of 1930.

Mr. Reeves was a member of the Seney Methodist Church during his childhood and youth and until his family moved closer to LeMars. He was upright and honest in his dealings with his fellow men, he was esteemed and respected in the community, many friends and neighbors will miss his sense of humor and Christian attitudes.

Survivors include his five children, Lawrence and Ernest of Paullina, Glenn of Kingsley, Mrs. R.V. Parks (Mabel) of Chino Valley, Arizona, Mrs. L. V. Parks (Myrtle) of Remsen, nine grandsons and nine granddaughters, five great grandchildren, two brothers, William of LeMars and Clarence of Sioux City, and two sister, Mrs. Martha Cook of LeMars and Mrs. R. E. Chambers of Watertown, South Dakota.

Relatives who went to their eternal rest before the deceased were his beloved wife, two sisters, Mrs. George Hughes and Mrs. Frank Becker, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Reeves.

May the Sustainer of all life, the Giver of good and perfect gifts, bless, comfort and strengthen those of us who remain.
