Paulette Dempster

Paulette Dempster, 50, of LeMars, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City after a two-years battle with cancer.

Paulette Elizabeth Dempster was born June 7, 1951, at McPherson, Kan., the daughter of Eric and Pauline (Steckel) Johnson. The family lived in various areas of the country before moving to Pasadena, Calif. Paulette graduated from high school in Pasadena and later attended Pasadena City College where she majored in art. She met Edward Dempster at a church youth group at the Herman Free Methodist Church in Los Angeles. They were married on April 14, 1973 in Los Angeles. The couple made their home in California for a few years before moving to the LeMars area. Along with helping Ed with farming, Paulette operated Dempster Art and Framing out of their home. More recently she worked at Medical Associates in LeMars. She enjoyed arts and crafts, as well as framing and painting.

Paulette was also very musically talented and had been a member of the New Creation music group since its inception in 1990. She was a member of the LeMars Bible Church and had recognized Jesus Christ as her Savior since she was a young girl.

Those thankful to have shared her life are her husband, Ed of LeMars; a daughter, Hallie and her husband, Pastor Earl Evans, of Newton, Kan.; a son, Todd Dempster, now attending Central Christian College in McPherson, Kan.; her mother, Pauline Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Peggy Smith and her husband, Dan, of Santa Cruz, Cal., and Penny Parker and her husband, Gordon, of Moreno Valley, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the LeMars Bible Church. Pastor Fred Gums and Pastor Earl Evans will officiate. Burial will follow at the Union Township Cemetery, rural LeMars. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday at the LeMars Bible Church. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral. The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of LeMars is in charge of arrangements.
