Funeral Wednesday for Lifelong Area Resident
Funeral for Gerald (Jerry) Featherston, 67, Plymouth county native and lifelong resident, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's American Lutheran Church in LeMars. Rev. David Kramer and Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Featherston died unexpectedly early Monday morning (May 22, 1989) at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars. He was transported to the hospital by the LeMars ambulance.
Mr. Featherston was born April 12, 1922, in Union Township, Plymouth County, to Gregg and Mabel Dempster Featherston.
His marriage to Nina Gerdes took place Aug. 15, 1949, in LeMars. The couple farmed near LeMars and retired to LeMars.
He served as a Plymouth County supervisor since 1978, and was regional manager for A. L. Williams Co.
He served with the United States Army Air Corps as a pilot instructor during World War II. He was a member of St. John's American Lutheran Church in LeMars, Wasmer Post 241, American Legion of LeMars, Plymouth County Civil Defense, Giblem Lodge 322, AF&AM of LeMars, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite Bodies of Sioux City and Order Eastern Star Chapter 171 of Kingsley. He was a member of P.E.R.
Survivors are his wife, Nina, LeMars; two daughters, Mrs. Ross (Linda) Harden of LeMars and Mrs. Steven (Pat) Berendes of Kingsley; five grandchildren, Brad and Jason Berendes and Kirsten, Niels and Morgan Harden; a brother, Lauren Featherston of Peoria, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Phil (Celeste) (sic--Celesta) Krieg of Kingsley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.
