Floyd Becker was Fair Board Member 25 Years

Floyd Arthur Becker, 70, lifetime rural LeMars man and longtime Plymouth county fair board member, died Saturday (Aug. 7, 1976) at Floyd Valley hospital in LeMars after a long illness. He had been hospitalized two days.

Best know as a longtime 4-H and youth leader and head of projects for the fair board, his death came ironically as the first day of activities this bicentennial year got under way.

He had led the youth of the county for 35 years, since 1941, and was on the board for a quarter century until his retirement in 1967.

Mr. Becker served as chairman for 12 years and the chairmanship was taken later by M. D. Klohs who serves at the present time in that capacity. Whitey Klohs has now been chairman for ten fairs.

In 1967 Becker Hall was dedicated in his name in thanks to his service to the youth of Plymouth county.

Mr. Becker was a member of the Seney United Methodist church.

He was a retired farmer and resided his entire life on a farm near Seney where he was born. His son Robert farms the family farm and both families live in their homes there. They are members of the American Angus Assn.

The son of the late Frank and Nettie Reeves Becker, Floyd was born Aug. 27, 1905. He would have reached his 71st birthday this month. His marriage to Genevieve Nixon took place Nov. 29, 1928, at Meriden.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Seney United Methodist church. Rev. Everett Staats will officiate and burial will be in the Seney cemetery, rural LeMars, under direction of the Mauer funeral home.

Survivors are his wife Genevieve, and a son Robert, both of rural LeMars, and a son Jerry Becker of Eagle Grove. There are five grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Helen Woodhouse, Hudson, S. D.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
