BRIEF ILLNESS PROVES FATAL
Apparently Slight Injury To Hand Develps Death Dealing Infection

J. E. Hughes Widely Known in the Community

J. E. Hughes, well known resident of Plymouth county, passed away at his home, 100 Eighth Street SW., Tuesday noon following a brief illness due to an infection following an injury to his hand several weeks ago.

Mr. Hughes, while engaged in his occupation of well boring suffered what was regarded as a minor accident, when two fingers of his left hand were crushed. He was apparently recovering from the injury and was engaged in light work last week. Infection developed alarmingly last Saturday and his condition grew rapidly worse ending in death.

Mr. Hughes had attained the age of 63 years, 9 months, and 23 days (differs from burial record). He was born in Woodbine, Ill., July 26, 1869, and came with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Hughes, to LeMars in 1881, and lived in or near LeMars for the past fifty years. He was united in marriage with Miss Jennie Dack, of LeMars, December 25, 1901.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, three brothers, George and Frank, of Haxtun, Colo., Sherman Hughes, of LeMars, and three sisters, Miss Cora Hughes, of LeMars, Mrs. Will Casler, of Akron, and Mrs. Chris Henricksen, of Alton, Iowa. Two children, Raymond and Dorothy, preceded him in death.*
