Death Claims Early Settler At Jefferson
Death Sunday evening claimed Milton W. Havilend (sic--Haviland), 62, of Jefferson, S. D., in a Sioux City hospital. He had been a school teacher at Jefferson and managed the Jefferson Civil Bend Telephone company and the Jefferson division of the South Dakota Public Service company.
Mr. Havilend (sic) was born June 17, 1872, in Elgin, Ill. When a child of 5, he moved with his parents to LeMars. The family homesteaded there and near Akron for many years. In 1894 Mr. Havilend (sic) went to Jefferson as a school teacher and remained there later to work for the telephone and service companies.
Surviving Mr. Havilend (sic) are his widow, Mrs. Kathryn Havilend (sic), and one son, Vincent Havilend (sic), both of Jefferson.
The deceased was a member of St. Peter's Catholic church at Jefferson.
