Gaylan Lassen, 75, of rural Remsen, Iowa, died on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.

Private family services will be held. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.

Memorials can be made in Gaylan’s name to the Orange City Area Health and Hospice, in care of Rexwinkel Funeral Home, PO Box 711, Le Mars, Iowa 51031.

Gaylan LaWayne Lassen, the son of Ervin and Sadie (Mulder) Lassen, was born on October 9, 1949, in Le Mars, Iowa. He attended country school in Plymouth County at Fredonia #4 before going to school in Le Mars. He graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1967.

Following his schooling, he farmed with his father and his brother, Sherwin, in Plymouth County, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Bonnie Larson on June 30, 1973, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. They made their home on a farm near Remsen, Iowa. He farmed and raised livestock for several years. In 1994, he stepped away from farming and went to work for Wells Dairy in Le Mars as an electrician. He worked there for 21 years before going to work for Langel’s Electric in Le Mars for a few years. He then went to work in maintenance at Northwestern College in Orange City and later for Staples in Orange City until retiring due to his health.

He was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church in Sioux City. He loved spending time outdoors taking care of his yard. He also enjoyed riding his recumbent bike. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of rural Remsen, IA; a daughter, Korissa Lassen of Norwalk, IA; a daughter, Tiffany (David) Gemas of Indialantic, FL, and their children, Ryan and Katherine; a son, Daniel (Kristin) Lassen of rural Remsen, IA, and their children, Kienna, Kyra, Kolt, and Karis; a daughter, Brittany (Matthew) Roberts of Canton, MO, and their son, Hank; a daughter, Kaitlin Lassen (fiancé, Matt Cocci) of Seattle, WA; his siblings: Twila (Ronald) Borchers of Le Mars, IA, Delwyn (Belinda) Lassen of Lake Park, IA, Arlo Lassen of Charlotte, NC, and Sherwin (Rhonda) Lassen of Le Mars, IA; two sisters in law, Kathy Lassen of Bluffton, SC, and Joy Larson of Remsen, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Martin and Lucille Larson; his brother, Duane Lassen; and a brother-in-law, Gary Larson.
