Glenn Sidney Lyons, 91, of Madrid, IA, formerly of LeMars, IA, died May 14, 2025 at Madrid Homes.  

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars.  Pastor Brian Hoffman will officiate.  Burial with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars will at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars.  Visitation with the family present will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Monday at the church.  Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

He was born December 13, 1933, at Renwick, IA, the son of Homer and Ruth (Cleveland) Lyons.  He grew up in the Wright County area and attended rural grade school and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1951.  He was active in vocal music and basketball while in high school. He was very active in 4H work for 10 years and carried a variety of livestock projects and received many county and state awards for them and his record book.

Following high school, he attended Iowa State College and received his B.S. in Animal Husbandry in 1955.  He was a member of the varsity livestock judging team and competed in several national contests.

After graduating from college, he was County Extension Youth Assistant in Sioux County before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a message center clerk in Germany.  After his honorable discharge he became County Extension Associate in Sioux County, and later Clay County.  He also was a country finished cattle buyer, office manager, livestock feed salesman, and for 11 years taught Swine Production and Management at Western Iowa Tech.  In later years he was manager, for two farrow to feeder swine units and was selected as an Iowa Master Swine Producer.

He married Rena Mae DeJong on May 10, 1960, at Orange City. They resided in several Iowa communities until retiring to LeMars in 1998.  He was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and held several committee offices there.

He enjoyed sports, travel, handyman repair and remodeling, and especially visiting with family and grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, and five grandchildren; Jim and Kathleen (Kelsey and Ben), Bob and Jean (Sam and Jonah), Don and Katy (Emily), and Dave and Stephanie; two sisters Marilyn Irelan and Judy and Bruce Morrison; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, his wife, two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, his brother, and a grandson, Jacob Lyons.
