DEATH SUMMONS CHATSWORTH MAN
Fred Koch Was Esteemed Pioneer Resident—Funeral Held Sunday
Fred Koch a well known and pioneer resident of Chatsworth, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ben Dalgliesh, Thursday, January 7, 1937, death being due to the infirmities of age. Although almost 90 years old, he was up and about most of the time and was bed fast but a few days previous to the final summons.
Fred Koch was born in Germany, June 20, 1847 and attained the age of 89 years, 6 months and 17 days. He came to the United States in 1866 as a youth 19 years old and located at Galena, Ill. He resided at Galena for many years and was married to Margaret Helmick there in 1879. His wife preceded him in death 21 years ago.
Coming to Union county, S. D. he engaged in farming and by thrift and good management accumulated sufficient of this world’s goods to live comfortably in his later life. He moved to Chatsworth in 1907 and has since made his home there.
He survived by four children, Tony Koch and Mrs. Ben Dalgliesh, of Chatsworth; Mrs. Amelia Frick of Valley, Nebr., and rank Koch, of Rapid City, S. D. Mrs. Frick came to attend the funeral but his son Frank was unable to come because of illness.
During his long residence in Union county and in Chatsworth Mr. Koch made a host of friends through his jovial nature, his honesty and fair dealings with his fellow men. He was a frequent visitor among relatives and friends in Akron and had many friends here who regret to hear of his demise.
Funeral services were held at the Ben Dalgliesh home in Chatsworth at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, conducted by Rev. T. H. Harding, of the Associated church of Hawarden. Interment was in Riverside cemetery, Akron.
