Obituary

Barbara Ann “Bobbi” Hansen, 86, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Christian Meier will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Barbara Ann Schilmoeller was born on June 17, 1937, on a farm near Germantown, Iowa, the daughter of
Alphonse and Helen (Kellen) Schilmoeller. Bobbi was raised in Granville, Iowa. As child she had a paper route and later worked as a telephone operator before graduating from St. Joseph High School on May 23, 1954. We always laughed when she told us her telephone number was 21 Granville. After high school, she moved to Le Mars, Iowa where she worked in the dietary department at Sacred Heart Hospital.

On August 31, 1957, Bobbi and Herman Miller were united in marriage. She continued her career in the
kitchen at various restaurants in the area as well as working at the Super America convenience store in Le Mars. She then took a position at the Plymouth Manor Care Center and worked as their food service manager for 25 years. She was always complimented on her homemade meals. After her retirement from Plymouth Manor she worked at the Lighthouse Café where she was well known for Aunt Bobbi’s Pan Fried Chicken (the Tuesday special) and her homemade pies, soups and salads. She continued working there after it changed over to J&J Cafe.

On July 14, 1983, Bobbi and Clifford Hansen, Sr. were united in marriage. Bobbi and Cliff spent many good times with their friends and families at their second home at the river, especially with Wayne and Violet and Mike and Susan Burgess. Most important was her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Being a Grandma is what she did best! She was very proud of each and every one of them. Even though she cooked for a living, one of her favorite activities was cooking for her family. Bobbi's door was always open and you never left hungry. As her children were growing up, she enjoyed going camping and fishing in the summer.

Bobbi was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. She could not contain her excitement when she attended the Vikings game in Minnesota. She could cheer them on like none other. She also enjoyed the Iowa Hawkeyes and watching the baseball playoffs with Cliff. She and Cliff liked to sit on the patio and watch the birds on their many bird feeders in the yard. She loved to go to garage sales and the Good Will to add to her huge cookbook collection. She spent many Tuesday nights playing bingo at the Eagles Club. She enjoyed scratching lottery tickets and shared her passion by handing out scratch tickets to her family on Christmas Eve. She adored her Miniature Schnauzers, Heather, Holly and Hanna. She also loved sitting in her chair snuggling up with Hunter dog.

She will be missed by her children, Susan Hansen of Le Mars, IA, Beverly (Burt) Mason of Elk Point, SD,
Shari (Mark) Frerichs of Le Mars, IA, Cliff (Jacquie) Hansen of Le Mars, IA, Jeff (Wanda) Miller of Le Mars, IA, Beth (Rob) Farmer of Le Mars, IA, Russ (Kim) Hansen of Corrinth, TX and Troy Miller of Le Mars, IA,
