Mrs. Evan Harris

Mrs. Evan Harris, 88, Akron, died Thursday (Nov. 7, 1985) in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 in the Wesley United Methodist church in Akron, Rev. Peter Peterson officiated. Linda Swanson soloist sang “Precious Lord Take My Hnad”, and “In the Garden”, accompanied by Pam Stowe, organist.

Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron under the direction of the Schroeder funeral home. Pallbearers were Stuart Harris, Gail Hemmingsen, Arval Jurgessen, Lee Harris, Cal Robertson, and Gerald Krause.

Mrs. Harris the former Ethelyn Adams, was born June 25, 1897, in Tripp, S. D. TO Fred and Etta Kennedy Adams. She married Evan Harris Feb. 24, 1920, in Sioux City. They farmed in Akron area for 45 years retiring to Akron in 1965. Mr. Harris died Jan 3, 1981.

Mrs. Harris was a member of the Rural Home Culture club, Roving Gardener’s Club, the Hoschler Post 186 American Legion Auxiliary, United Methodist Women and the Wesley United Methodist church.

Survivors include three sons, Stanley of Lakewood, Calif., Orville of Des Moines, and Gaynor of Akron; two daughters, Helen Palmer of Des Moines, and Joyce Hummel of Hawarden; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle McCorkell of Salem S. D.; 22 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Claude, Fred, Ray, Art and James, and one sister, Elsie.
