Death of Mrs. Patrick Hickey

Mrs Bridget Hickey wife of Patrick Hickey died at her home on Cedar street on Wednesday morning December 24 at 9:50 after a sickness of about ten days duration resulting from inflamation of the kidneys. The funeral was held on Friday morning from St. James church at 9 o'clock and the remans were interred in the St. James cemetery where they were followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and nelghbors who mingled their sorrow with the bereaved family for in the one third of a century which she has resided here a close bond of friendship had grown between this excellent woman and her neighburs and the grief was a common one bowing all heads in mourning over the death of the aged mother the first death to break the family circle.

Deceased was born in County Sligo, Ireland, 68 years ago and resided there untll 1885 when she went to Toronto, Canada, shortly after which she was united in marriage with Patrick Hickey. After her marriage they went to Boston to reside and then went to Michigan where they made their home for several years. HearIng much of the great west and the possibilities of securing a home of their own they decided to come to lowa and came to Plymouth county on May 14, 1870, homesteading on the part of the fine farm in Marion township which they have owned for 32 years and which is now one of the finest farms in the county.

Two years ago a neat cottage was built on Cedar street in which to spend their declining years, when death entered taking the mother to whom the aged husband and five sons who in the walk of life turned for comfort and consolation. Deceased was the mother of five sons all of who survive her. They are John, of Chicago; D. B., of St. Paul; Maurice and Patrick, of Seattle, Wash., and J. J., who resides on the home farm. Maurice arrived from Seattle in time to attend the funeral, but Patrick, who bad just gone out in charge of a construction train, could not be reached in time to enable him to come. D. B. Hickey and Mrs. Hickey of St. Paul were here to attend the funeral.
