Mrs. John Welter, one of the pioneer settlers of Le Mars, died Thursday morning, very suddenly, at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Staebell, 720 First Street, at the age of 71 years. Mrs. Walter was in her apparent good health yesterday morning on arising. About 8 o'clock, she was seized with an attack of heart trouble. Medical aid was summoned, but was unavailing and she expired about 10:30.

Celia Fox was born in Freeport, Ill., in October 1857, where she grew up, and when a girl came with her parents to eastern Iowa and later to Le Mars.

She was united in marriage with John Welter, who conducted a saloon on Sixth Street in the pioneer days. The building was situated where the Blackburn store now stands.

Mr. Welter died many years ago. This is Walter is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lingelbaugh, of Salina, Ill., Mrs. Fred Heamer, of Waterloo, and two sons Jos. Welter, of Madison, Minn., and Fred Welter, of Marion, Iowa.

She is also survived by three sisters and two brothers who are Mrs. Frank Staebell, of Le Mars, Mrs. Fritz, of Waterloo, Mrs. Hoffmann, living in Oklahoma, John Fox and Jacob Fox.

The funeral arrangements had not been completed last evening as word is being awaited from relatives.
