LONG TIME IOWA RESIDENT DIES

Mrs. Maria Nason, Age 88, Succumbs to Pneumonia

Pneumonia, which developed after a leg fracture suffered in a fall proved fatal to Mrs. Maria Nason, 88 years old, resident in the vicinity of Westfield, Ia., for 50 years.

Mrs. Nason, who was the widow of Thomas Nason, widely known Plymouth farmer, had resided on a farm 17 miles north of Sioux City on the Broken Kettle road since 1879. Seven sons and a daughter reside on neighboring farms, causing the locality to be known as the Nason settlement.

Mrs. Nason was born in 1841 at Chipping-Norton Oxfordshire, England. Her maiden name was Maria Insall. She was married in England to Thomas Nason and about 1870 they migrated to the United States, making their home for a time in Massachusetts.

In 1871 the Nasons came west to the vicinity of Sioux City, settling on a farm near Jefferson, S. D. Six years later they moved to Plymouth county, Ia., where the family continued to reside.

Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Nason, nine of whom survive. They are: Albert, Edward,, George, Harry, Walter, William, John and Anna, all of near Westfield, and Joseph of Bruce, S. D.
