MEETS TRAGIC FATE JOHN A. JONES KILLED WHEN FLY WHEEL BURSTS. WAS ENGAGED IN SAWING W0OD

Piece s of Flying Iron Struck Unfortunate Man on the Right Temple and Left Breast—Was Resident Here for Twenty-Five Years.

John. A. Jones, aged 45, a well-known resident of Merrill vicinity was instantly killed Friday afternoon when pieces of a wrecked engine struck him on the head and in the left breast. The accident occurred at the farm of Frank Doulin, two and a half miles southeast of Merrill. Jones and another neighbor, Jns Krool, were assisting Doulin and the letter's two boys sawing wood. A large steam engine was being used to run the saw. The lacing on the belting of the governor became unloosed causing the engine to speed up and the flywheel busted with a terrific explosion which was heard by the wife of the victim at the Jones farm across the road from the Doulin place. Jones was in the act of feeding a piece of wood into the saw.

A piece of iron struck him on the right temple and another piece of iron penetrated the left lung. Death was instantaneous. The accident cast a gloom over the community in which he resided.

The unfortunate man leaves a wife and three children the oldest 13 and the youngest six.

Mr. Jones was born in Illinois and was forty-six years old last June. He has early left an orphan, and began to shift for himself when only just in his teens. He came to Plymouth County about twenty-five years ago and married Miss Rose Schneider, daughter of Jacob Schneider, of Melbourne, fifteen years ago. He is mourned by his wife and three children, Cleo, Lola, and Alfred, and many relatives and friends.

Mr. Jones was a successful farmer and a good neighbor and was well-liked in the community. He was active in church and civic work and was highly respected.

The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in Merrill and was very largely attended.
