Peter J. Homan 57, died at his home in Montrose at 1:30 a. m. Wednesday, August 28 [1935], after a lingering illness that had kept him confined to his home since last November. Mr. Homan had been in ill health for several years and not been able to be down town since November. He had not been out of the house since December.
Mr. Homan was born on January 22, 1878, at Remsen, Ia., the son of Jacob and Elizabeth [Arens] Homan. When 16 years old [1894] he moved with his parents to Montrose where they lived on a farm just north of town. On October 30, 1900, he was married at Pittsburg, Kansas, to Miss Lucy Seleman, who at that time lived at Pittsburg although she had formerly lived in Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Homan moved to Remsen, Ia., immediately following their marriage where they lived for eight years [1900-1908], when they returned to Pitttsburg [1908]. In 1918 they moved to Montrose [MO] where they have since made their home.
Mr. Homan is suevived by his widow and six children as follows: Raymond and Will of Remsen, Ia.; Clarence, Jacob and Cecelia of the home [Montrose, MO]; and Mrs. Wm. J. Bellinghausen of Montrose. A daughter, Frances, passed away 7 years ago. He is also survived by three brothers; Nick, Charles and Anthony, of Porter, Minn.
Mr. Homan was a kindly, honest and conscientious gentleman held in high esteem by his friends and neighbors. His principal occupation was that of a farmer although he followed other lines from time to time. For three years and until his health failed he was manager of the Montrose Shipping Association and was actively identified with other Montrose farm organizations. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception church.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock from the Immaculate Conception church conducted by Rev. Wm. F. Roels. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery at Montrose.
