Esther Madeline (Stabe) Reinholdt Eikenhorst, 99, of Remsen, formerly of Le Mars, died Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Bavarian Meadows Assisted Living in Remsen.

Esther Madeline Stabe was born April 26, 1922, in rural Hinton, the daughter of Karl and Amanda (Heimgartner) Stabe. She was baptized in June of 1922 and later confirmed on April 5, 1936, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. She received her elementary education at a rural school in Lincoln Township, rural Plymouth County.

She married Harry Reinholdt on March 4, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hinton. They farmed near the Marcus area before purchasing their own farm south of Remsen. They spent many winters in Pharr, Texas and made several friends. They also enjoyed square dancing. Harry died in 2005 and Esther then moved to Le Mars.

In 2006, she married Orval Eikenhorst. They resided in Le Mars, and wintered in Pharr, Texas until the spring of 2014. They enjoyed traveling through Europe and took several cruises, including in Alaska, Hawaiian Islands, Panama Canal, Baltic Sea ports and several Caribbean Islands. Orval died May of 2017.

Esther was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, and Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. She was currently a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. She was always active in her church, serving many years as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, secretary of Zone L.W.M.L. and chairperson and secretary of the ladies’ aide. She loved to cook, travel, square dance, quilt, China paint and oil paint, gardening – both flower and vegetable, and designing her own greeting cards.

Left to cherish fond memories of her are her four daughters: Sharon Pedersen of Bennington, Nebraska, Eunice (Hartley) Johnson of Edina, Minnesota, Linda (Steven) Babbitt of Parker, Colorado, and Janice (Bill) Hildreth of Omaha, Nebraska; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Vernon Stabe of Remsen; her in-laws: Walter (Violet) Reinholdt and Dorothy Rumohr; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Amanda Stabe; her husbands, Harry Reinholdt and Orval Eikenhorst; her siblings: Ralph (Luella) Stabe, Marvin (Aida) Stabe, Ruben (Alma) Stabe, Hilda Pearson, and Agnes Stabe; and her in-laws: Elmer (Thelma) Reinholdt, Clarence (Delores, Mae) Reinholdt, Milton Rumohr, and Elsie Stabe.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 18, at Christ Lutheran Church, L.C.M.S. in Remsen. The Rev. Garret Kasper will officiate. Burial will follow in the Remsen Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 17, at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church.

Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.
