DEATH SUMMONS A WELL KNOWN AKRON CITIZEN

M. M. Talbott Called to Final Reward

The people of this community were saddened by the death of M. M. Talbott, of this city, last Thursday evening, September 29, 1933, after an illness of only five days. On the Saturday previous to his death, he was down town and apparently in his natural health, but was taken ill that evening and a doctor summoned. The symptoms indicated encephalitis, or sleeping sickness and the usual tests were made, but the exact nature of his ailment was not determined. As a precautionary measure, the home was place under temporary quarantine. In spite of al that medical skill and care could accomplish, he remained in a coma until the final summons came.

Merrill M. Talbott, son of Isaac and Susan Talbott, was born in Jo Daviess county, Illinois, October 18, 1864, and departed this life at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 11 days. His boyhood was spent in Illinois, and in 1883 his father and family came to Iowa and located on a farm near Adaville, Plymouth county. Here he lived until he moved to Akron the first day of January, 1900. The remainder of his life was passed in Akron, where he engaged in the implement business for a time, and later was occupied with farm interests, well drilling and work on pumps and windmills.

Mr. Talbott was united in marriage with Sarah Ruth Baker in Akron on July 7, 1903. Their home was blessed with three daughters, Ruth Eleanor (now the wife of Frank Morehead); Ora May, and Muriel (now the wife of John Winquist), all residents of this vicinity.

Besides his widow and three daughters, he also leaves to mourn his departure, a brother, Reuben E. Talbott, and a sister, Mrs. Fluella Grace Benefiel, both of San Diego, Calif., and two granddaughters, Eleanor May and John Merrill Winquist.

Mr. Talbott had been a resident of this community for fifty years and was one of the most widely known and highly esteemed citizens of western Plymouth county. He was connected with the United Brethren church when his home was near Adaville, and after coming to Akron he was united with the First Baptist church, August 29, 1902. He had held the office of deacon since 1914, being senior deacon at the time he was taken away, and he had been a trustee of the church since 1930. Mr. Talbott also took a keen interest in civic affairs and was always a loyal supporter of any worthy community enterprise. He served as a member of the Akron Commerical club. A kind and devoted husband and father, a valued and helpful neighbor and friend, he will be sincerely missed and mourned in the community where he spent the major portion of his life. The sympathy of a host of friends goes out to the bereaved wife, children, sister and brother.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the family home, conducted by his pastor, Rev. R. E. Brown. Many friends assembled in the yard at the home and followed the remains to the last resting place in Riverside cemetery, as a final tribute of respect.

Reuben E. Talbott, of San Diego, Calif., came to attend his brother’s funeral.
