Obituary of Mrs. Marie Martin
Marie Martha Krueger. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Krueger. was born in Stuttgart, Germany, on June 23. 1883 and passed away in Cherokee on February 16th, 1956 at the age of 72 years 7 months, and 24 days.
Seeking larger opportunities, the family sailed for America in 1887, and settled on a farm in O'Brien county, moving two years later to Cherokee county. In 1889 her father bought. a farm in Woodbury County where they resided for several years.
She was united in marriage in March 1904 to Richard Martin. Five children were born to this union, all of whom survive; three sons, Julius of Hinton, Glen of Omaha, and Donald of Sioux City; two daughters Mrs. Helen Clark, of Cherokee, and Ann Bleil, of Aurelia; I8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law Mrs. Carl Krueger of Climbing Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband on January 24. 1918. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 3, 1898, at Rock Branch, later affiliating with the Congregational church in Kingsley. Her children and grandchildren were her constant joy. She was a faithful member of the church and Social Circle, attending as long as her health permitted. Services were held at the Concretional church on Feb. 18th with Rev. Brewster and Rev. Paul Jackson, of Peterson officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons, Terry Martin, of Sioux City; Roger Martin of Hinton; Gerald Clark Gayle Farlee and Kenneth Brandt, of Cherokee, and Dick Bleil of Aurelia. Interment was in the Kingsley Cemetery under the direction of the Dickison funeral home.
