AKRON, Iowa - Genevieve C. Layton, 85 of Akron died Saturday, June 5, 1993 at the Akron Care Center after a long illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron with the Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mrs. Layton was born Jan. 27, 1908, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of John and Bertha (Woltman) Sand. She moved with her parents to a farm near Akron and later to a farm near Highmore, S.D. On Dec. 19. 1926 she married Wesley W. Peterson at Miller, S.D. On Sept 1, 1956 she married Albert C. Layton in Jacksonville, Ill. They lived in the Hawarden area where they operated the Avalunch Cafe for 11 years. He died March 19, 1982. She then lived with her daughter Rosella Anderson in Akron and moved to Akron Care Center in 1987.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosella and her husband, Stanley Anderson of Akron and Mrs. Everett (Lillian) Fox of Akron; a son Carlisle J. Peterson of Huron, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edward Sand of Starbuck, Minn., and Harvey Sand of Beresford, S.D.; a sister, Mrs Roland (Esther) Swanson of Akron, and a son-in-law, Gene Whitney of Huron.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Whitney; a grandson Jim Flolo; and a grand daughter, Carol Anderson.
