Seney, Iowa – Robert F. Becker, 86, of rural Seney, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Unity Point Health in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Seney United Methodist Church. Rev. Suzi Larson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Seney Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service.
Robert Floyd Becker was born on November 14, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Genevieve (Nixon) Becker. He attended school near his home in rural Le Mars and later graduated from Le Mars High School in 1950. Following high school, Bob attended Westmar College in Le Mars.
On January 19, 1953, Bob was inducted into the United States Army. He served in an artillery unit during the Korean War. Bob earned an Honorable Discharge on October 18, 1954. He returned to the Le Mars area to farm with his father.
Bob and Leona Renken were united in marriage on June 28, 1958 at Christ Lutheran Church (Grant Township), rural Le Mars. They made their home on the Becker family farm. Together they farmed and raised their three children. In early years, Bob was a 4-H leader and served on the 4-H Youth Committee. He was always present at his children’s activities, and later, at his grandchildren’s events.
Bob was a lifelong member of the Seney United Methodist Church and served on numerous committees and positions. He was a member of the Plymouth County Fair Board and was the swine superintendent for over 25 years and was honored with an induction into the Hall of Fame. He served as president of the Le Mars FFA, was an Iowa Farmer and served on the Plymouth County Extension. He was awarded as an Honorary Chapter Farmer to the Le Mars FFA. Bob was also a member of Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Along with time spent with his family, Bob enjoyed fishing.
Grateful to have shared his life is his wife of 60 years, Leona of rural Le Mars, IA; his children and their spouses, Steve and Linda Becker of Aiken, SC, Stuart and Tina Becker of New Lennox, IL and Susan and Lee Konz of rural Le Mars, IA; grandchildren, Adam (Joni) Dial, Elizabeth (Michael) Basham, Kara Becker, Frank Becker, Christina Konz and Kaitelin Konz; great-grandchildren, Brady and Ansley Dial and soon to arrive, baby girl Basham; a brother and his wife, Jerry and Gloria Becker of Eagle Grove, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol and Don Freking of Topeka, KS, Lorraine and Lloyd Borchers of Le Mars, IA, Fred and Joyce Renken of Canton, KS, Richard Renken and Le Roy Schultz both of Le Mars, IA.
He was preceded in death by parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wilhelmina and Lawrence Renken; a sister-in-law, Betty Schultz; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernice and Walter Schleis.
