Susan Madden, 68 of Akron, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., all on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Susan Kay Madden was born on January 28, 1951 to Hubert and Lorraine (Peck) Kulvik. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Woodrow Wilson School in Sioux City. Susan worked various jobs after graduating until 1973 when she married Donald Madden Jr. Susan and Susan's sister, Alberta, were married to brothers Donald Jr. and Duane Madden in a double wedding on May 4, 1973 in Sioux City. Donald and Susan made their home on a farm in rural Kingsley, Iowa. They later divorced and Susan moved to Akron. She later moved to the Abbey in Le Mars and worked at Life Skills Training Center. After the Abbey closed, Susan moved to Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden.

Susan loved to sew - she learned to sew in her youth and made many clothes/outfits, pillows, baby blankets and doll accessories. She also loved to cook and enjoyed inviting family over for dinners!

Susan is survived by her son, Dennis Lee (Maria) Madden of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; grandchildren: Dylan, Isabella, Beauden, and Brandon Madden; siblings: Alberta (Duane) Madden of Akron, Albert Kulvik of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Hubert (Shirley) Kulvik Jr. of Sioux City, and Jeff Kulvik of Sioux City; aunts: Audrey Kjose of Akron and Mary Lou Rich, Marlys Brewer, and Marilyn Peck all of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dixie (Noel) Morton; sister in law, Violet Kulvik; and nephew, Duane Madden Jr.
