July 02, 1943 - December 19, 2020

Alen Brown, 77 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Akron, Iowa. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Mask and social distancing are required. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa.

Alen Andrew Brown was born on July 2, 1943 in Akron, Iowa to Andrew and Pearl (Nitzschke). He was raised in rural Akron; he attended a local country school and later Akron High School. After his education, Alen began farming with his father. Alen also worked in Sioux City at IBP and helped to build the business. He later worked in Sioux City painting machinery and equipment and also worked for the Nelson Hatchery. Alen was a lifelong farmer; he did custom combining and trucking for other local farmers as well. He later worked for Joe’s Ready Mix in Hawarden and retired due to his health.

Alen was united in marriage to Laurene Weyer on September 28, 1968 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. They made their home in rural Akron on the farm and moved into Akron after they retired.

Alen enjoyed farming, fishing, and CB radios/scanners. He was an FFA member and a 4-H member and leader. Their family enjoyed going camping together for many years. Alen also enjoyed watching car races and collecting John Deere toys.

Alen was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron and recently had begun attending services at First Baptist Church in Akron.

Alen is survived by his wife of 52 years, Laurene Brown: children: Tom (Sue Fulmer) Brown of Coal Valley, IL, Brad (Sabrina ‘Bree’) Brown of Merrill, IA, and Jamie (Jonathan) Royer of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren: Vanessa Horton, Katie Horton, Dylan Brown, Faith Brown, Ryan Brown, Eric Brown, Justin Kiewel, Ayla Royer, Jessica Royer, Marcus Royer, and Marshelle Saltzman; great grandchildren: Skylar Ann Mitchell, Zaiden Ryan Zawrotny, and Wyatt Kiewel; sister, Paulette Fletcher of Sioux City, IA; sisters in law: Mary Ann (Lee) Geveshausen of Beresford, SD, Carolyn Bertram of Little Rock, IA, Beverly Weyer of Sioux Falls, SD, Patricia (Michael) Norman of Ventura, IA, Kathy Weyer of Hudson, SD, and Carole Weyer of Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Alen is preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy; parents in law, Peter and Hattie (Lambertson) Weyer; brothers in law: Roger Fletcher, Donald Bertram, Jerry Weyer, and Nicholas Weyer.
