Rodney Anderson, 60, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Eric Alm from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron will officiate. Private family burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron. Social distancing guidelines will be followed and wearing a mask is suggested.

Rodney Lee Anderson was born July 15, 1960 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Stanley R. and Rosella (Peterson) Anderson. He attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1978. After high school, he owned and operated the Spink Café for a few years. Later, he traveled and worked throughout the Midwest, living in Texas, Sioux Falls, and Vermillion where he managed a convenience store and worked in telecommunications. From 2010 to 2015, he became the assistant director for the Akron Public Library.

Rodney was very active in the community of Akron. He volunteered in several capacities including the past president of the Akron Area Chamber Commerce, board member for the Akron Historical Society, chairperson for the Akron & Akron-Westfield All-Class Reunions and served on the Akron Historic Preservation Commission. His greatest love was researching and documenting grave sites through FindAGrave.com. He spent many hours in area cemeteries, cleaning and photographing tombstones, researching internet and newspaper archives for obituaries, and then placing that information on the FindAGrave website. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and always bringing energy and life to the party!

Survivors include his sister, Anita (Bruce) Johnson of Beresford, SD; his brother, Richard (Peggy) Anderson of Sioux City, IA; 2 nephews, Wade (Deb) Johnson of Beresford, SD, and Ryan (Carly) Anderson of Olathe, KS; his niece, Amy (Shane) Werner of Overland Park, KS; and 5 great nephews and 5 great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Lynn Anderson; and a niece, Jennifer Ellingson.
