DEATH COMES TO CHAS. J. JOHNSON SUNDAY MORNING

Rites Held Wednesday For Well Known Westfield Man

Charles J. Johnson, a well known resident of western Plymouth county, passed away in his sleep at his home near Westfield, Iowa, Sunday morning. September 14, 1947, as the result of a heart attack. He was 69 years, 1 month and 1 day of age.

Carl Johan Johnson was born in Otavidaberg, Ostergottland, Sweden, August 13, 1878. He was baptized in infancy and later was confirmed as a communicant member of the Lutheran Church of Sweden. In 1901 he came to America and lived for two years at Odebott, Iowa. In 1904 he secured employment on the railroad in Sioux City, Iowa. There he met and on November 25, 1908 married Miss Elsie Bjorklund. They were married by Pastor Norrbom and became members of Augustana Lutheran church there.

In 1914 they moved to a farm east of Leeds and two years later came to the Westfield community, where they have resided ever since. They have lived on the present farm for about six years, and were just preparing to move into a residence they had bought in Akron when he was stricken.

Those left to mourn his departure include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Alton Delano and Mrs. Eleanor Jarret, both of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Norma Helrikson, of Sioux City, and Mrs. Leon Deway, of Westfield; three sons, Melvin, Ernest and Harold, all of Akron; five sisters, Mrs. Minnie Schmidt, of Oakland, Calif.; Mrs. Alma Sullberg, of Santa Ana, Calif.; Mrs. Hulda Grundeen, of Oakland, Calif.; Nina and Carla, of Sweden; twelve grandchildren, many other relatives, and a great number of friends who extend sympathy to the bereaved family.

Two brothers, both of Sweden, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Immanuel Lutheran church in this city, with Pastor David J. Roy officiating. A brief service was held first at the family home, near Westfield. A male quartet comprised of H. J. Behmer, Arden Johnson, Clifford Johnson and Harry Nelson, furnished the music. They were accompanied by Mrs. Alvin Frisk. Pallbearers were Ernest Anderson, Tom Bruce, John Bultman, Sr., Fred Claasson, Lester Dewey and Edwin Nelson. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
