Clifford S. Peters, 97 of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at Floyd Valley Healthcare of Le Mars.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Le Mars with Reverend Chris Meier officiating. Masks and social distancing are required. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in rural Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home and will continue until the service time. Masks and social distancing are required.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Heeren-Mc Hale-Wilkens Post 724 American Legion in Brunsville, Iowa.

Clifford Samuel Peters was born on November 29, 1922 to William and Elizabeth (Watry) Peters in Armour, South Dakota. Cliff was raised in and attended school in Armour. He moved to Le Mars in the spring of 1938 and worked as a farm laborer. Cliff joined the United States Army in June of 1944 and served during World War II. He was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. Cliff was united in marriage to Ann Oltmanns. Ann passed away during childbirth along with their infant daughter in June of 1947. On December 29, 1948 Cliff married Arlene Renken. Together they farmed and Cliff was an auctioneer. He also started a cattle buying and trucking business in 1956. He retired in 1984 and they moved into Le Mars in 1993.

Cliff enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and camping. Cliff was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in rural Le Mars for many years and later became a member at St. John’s Lutheran Church when they moved into town. He was a long-time member of Heeren--McHale-Wilkens Post 724 American Legion in Brunsville, Iowa.

Cliff is survived by his wife of 71 years, Arlene; daughters: Wanda (Mike) Delperdang, Jane (Myron) Plueger, and Amy (Terry) Maass; grandchildren: Andrea Delperdang, Jessica (Dusty) Hannah, Lisa (Eric) Mayrose, Ryann (Adam) Sanow, Kacy Plueger, Megan Maass, Nicole Maass, Andy Maass, and Josh Maass; great grandchildren: Skylar Hannah, CJ Hannah, Tayten Sanow, Taeleigh Sanow, Sawyer Mayrose, Mia Mayrose, and Caleb Christenson; siblings in law: Victor (Lee) Renken, Verda (Jim) Marienau, Joan Renken, and Kathy Renken; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Cliff is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann Oltmanns and infant daughter; brothers: Lloyd, Erwin, Emmett, Elmer, Sidney, and Harold Peters; sisters: Evelyn Johnson and Verna Carpenter; brothers in law: Erwin, Wilbur (Jerlois), and Donald Renken; and sister in law, infant Berniece Renken.
