Mrs. Jantja Eltjes, one of the early settlers in Grant township, died on Saturday afternoon at the home of her son, John Eltjes, where she had lived since the death of her husband many years ago. Her death was due to hardening of the arteries and ailments brought on by old age. Mrs. Eltjes was a native of Germany, where she was born 83 years ago on December 27, 1836. She and her husband came to America in early days and settled in Illinois and later near Ackley, Ia., and came to Plymouth county in 1877. They settled in Grant township where she made her home until her death, living with her children since the death of her husband about thirty years ago.

Mrs. Eltjes is survived by her son, John Eltjes, and her daughters, Mrs. John Weyen, Mrs. Ben Gerdes and Mrs. Lawrence McGilvray, of this county, and Mrs. John Schluter of Woolsey, S.D., and a large number of grandchildren and descendants.

Mrs. Eltjes was widely known especially among the older residents and was highly respected in a large circle of friends and neighbors.

The funeral will be held from the home at 2 o’clock this afternoon and services will be conducted by Rev. J. D. Meyer at Christ Lutheran church in Grant township.
