Nicholas Zeig Is Called By Death
Aged Pioneer Laid to Rest This Morning - Came Here at 17 Years of Age
Nicholas Zeig, 82 years and 16 days of age, died at his home at 400 6th Ave. S.W., Monday, of bronchial pneumonia. The funeral was held this morning from St. Joseph’s church and burial made in St. Joseph cemetery, Wiltgen’s funeral directors in charge.
Mr. Zeig was born in Dellem Lexembourg on February 2, 1847, and came to this country at the age of 17. He settled in Jackson county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood and received his schooling. On January 20, 1873, in Jackson, he was married. Soon after the marriage they moved to this community.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife, three sons and one daughter, who are: John, Dan and William of this community and Mrs. I.S. Givens, O’Neil, Neb. One brother, Peter Zeig, Le Mars, and a sister Katherine Feller, Springbrook, Ia. also survive.
Mr. Zeig was well known in this community and enjoyed the acquaintance of many friends, who join with his devoted wife and family in mourning his passing.
