Mary Jane Heien, 90 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Funeral Service with social distancing will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in rural Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation with the family present with social distancing will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2020 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Mary’s family asks those who are attending services to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing guidelines as mandated by state and federal guidelines.

Mary Jane Wescom was born on January 11, 1930 in Pingree, North Dakota to Harry and Mabel (Mino) Wescom. She attended country school near her home and later attended high school in Pingree, North Dakota. On October 24, 1945 Mary was united in marriage to Elmer Heien in Glendive, Montana. When Elmer returned from the service in 1946, they began farming near Le Mars. Along with homemaking, Mary sewed, gardened, and helped Elmer with farm chores. She also worked as a waitress at Justy’s Café, Alfs Factory, and the county home. Elmer and Mary retired in 1983. Elmer passed away on September 15, 2010. Mary was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed crocheting and the Cubs.

Mary is survived by her children: Sharon (Henry) Kramer of Ireton, Iowa, Joan (Byron) Osterbuhr of Le Mars, and Robert Heien of Le Mars; grandchildren: Chris (fiancé Judy Davis) Kramer, Brenda Kramer, Chad (Jamie) Osterbuhr, Amy (Mike) Hull, James Heien, and Erin Heien; great grandchildren: Emy Osterbuhr, Jordan Osterbuhr, Cheyanne Kramer, and Jase Hull; and nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mabel Wescom; husband, Elmer; daughter in law, Kathy Heien; siblings: Richard (Dolores) Wescom, Delbert (Betty, Beulah) Wescom, Harriet Jean (Anun Beaver, Wilmer Wahl) Wahl and Donna Wescom.
