OTTO NYGARD IS CALLED BY DEATH LAST WEDNRSDAY
Rites Held Friday For Well-Known Resident Of This Community
Otto Nygard departed this life at his home in Akron, Wednesday morning, December 15, 154 at the age of 76 years and 16 days. His death was the result of an illness of only a few weeks duration, although he had been failing in health for a number of years.
Mr. Nygard was born November 29, 1878, at Decorah, Iowa. During infancy and youth, he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Decorah.
Shortly after his confirmation, his parents, brothers and sisters and he moved westward across Iowa to a farm in Union county, South Dakota, northwest of Akron, Iowa. In that community he met and later married Miss Alma Amundson. The marriage took place in Sioux City, January 8, 1901. Together they lived on farms approximately fifteen miles northeast of Akron for nearly fifty years, or until about four years ago when they retired from farming and moved to Akron.
Those who survive to mourn his departure include; Mrs. Alma Nygard, his wife; three sons, Howard, of Hawarden; Clifford and Kenneth both of Akron; three brothers, Olaf of Akron; John of Louise, Texas and Lewis of Bay City, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Emma Munebrath of Sioux City; Mrs. Petra Cornwell and Mrs. Letta Newgard, both of Akron; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services held at Immanuel Lutheran church last Friday, at 2:00 p.m., were conducted by Rev. D. J. Roy. Mrs. Alvin Frisk sang and Mrs. Shoulberg was organist. Pallbearers were Jos. Powell, Emil Stere, Ira Peterson, Burdette Amundson, Ole Sommervold and Orland Lawrence. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
