Rites Thursday for Bernie Wurth
Bernie Wurth, 87, of Remsen, died Monday, May 20, 1991, at Happy Siesta Nursing Home here after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. John J. McGuirk and Rev. John Thomas of Sioux City officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral.
Mr. Wurth was born Oct. 28, 1903 at Paducah, Kentucky to Joseph and Rosena (Englert) Wurth. He was raised and educated in the Paducah area. He came to the Remsen area in 1927 where he was a farm laborer until his marriage.
His marriage Miranda Krier took place Dec. 30, 1935 at Remsen. The couple then farmed for themselves near Remsen, retiring on the farm in 1968. He had been a resident of Happy Siesta Nursing Home since March 18, 1986.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a past member of St. Mary's Advisory Board, a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 50 years, and a past member of the board of directors of the Farmers Cooperative Co. of Remsen from 1964 to 1975.
Surviving are his wife, Miranda, of Remsen; three sons, Dick, Jim and Tom, all of Remsen; three daughters, Mrs. Bob (Sally) Ortmann of Remsen, Miss Delores Wurth of Sioux City and Mrs. Duane (Rose) Monson of Wesley, Ia.; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Firman "Jake" Wurth of Paducah, Ky.; and three sisters, Mrs. Joe (Annie) Champy and Mrs. Arthur (Margaret) Willett, both of Paducah, Ky. and Miss Margaret Wurth of Louisville, Ky.
He preceded in death by his parents; a son Bob; a brother Leonard; and a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Estella) French.
Casket bearers were Jerry Krier, Russ Ortmann, and David, Francis, Mark and Tony Wurth.
Honorary Catholic Order of Forester pallbearers were Jim Boever, Larry Galles, Isidore Harpenau, Bill Heidesch, Lyle Heidesch and LeRoy Niehus.
