Funeral Services for George V. Pew Monday Afternoon
Died at Home in Le Mars on Thursday Night
George V. Pew, life long resident of Le Mars and widely known business man, died Thursday evening October 31, from a heart attack. Mr. Pew had been at his place of business all day but shortly after going home called the doctor. His condition grew worse and he passed away about 9 p.m.
George Vincent Pew was born in Le Mars June 18, 1881, the son of George E. Pew, pioneer Le Mars implement dealer. He attended Le Mars high school and graduated from Iowa State college in 1904. Returning to Le Mars that year he was associated with his father in the implement business thereafter except for a few months when he was a traveling salesman. In 1907 he became associated with the George E. Pew company as vice president and secretary and since his father’s death has conducted that company in association with his brother, Harold Pew.
In addition to his business connections Mr. Pew was interested in civic activities and as a member of the park board the past ten years was largely instrumental in the development of Le Mars fine new recreation park. He was also active in civic clubs, lodges and other organizations.
On October 12, 1909, Mr. Pew was married in Minneapolis, Minn., to Norma Blum who survives him, with one son, Frederic, now living in Detroit, Michigan, and one daughter Mrs. G. W. Day, (Mary Louise) of Portland, Oregon; one brother, Harold Pew of Le Mars, and one sister, Mrs. Gladys Blair of Chicago. He is also survived by two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the family home at 2:15 and the Mauer chapel at 2:30 with Rev. H. O. Thompson of Hildreth church officiating. Burial was in the city cemetery.
