GRANVILLE --Viola "Vicki" Christensen, 82, of Granville died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City after a sudden illness.

Vicki Christensen was born April 17, 1921, at Struble, the daughter of William and Olivia (Kaiser) Baack.

She was reared and educated in the Le Mars area and then was employed at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars. On Jan. 5, 1943, she married Elmer Christensen at Le mMars. They made their home near Granville where they were engaged in farming. Elmer died Aug. 28, 1979.

Vicki continued to live on the farm until 1996, when she moved to Granville.

She loved traveling, gardening, embroidering, reading and most of all spending time with her family.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, church choir, church Guild, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Joyce and Ron Goergen of Milwaukee, Wis., Norma and Mont Schreurs of Ankeny, Dianne and Don Krier of Sioux City; three sons and their wives, Tom and Linda of Maplewood, Minn., Frank and Linda of Ankeny, Steve and Connie of Granville; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Liz Foreman of Sheldon; two brothers-in-law, Jim Beck and Ed and his wife Agnes Vonderharr, all of Granville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents; four sisters, Mildred Haag, Lucille Haag, Vera Carel, Olivia Bauerly and a brother, Raymond Baack.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Monday, Aug. 25, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, with Msgr. Kenneth Seifried officiating. Burial was at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Granville.

Visitation, a parish rosary and vigil prayer service were held Sunday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville.

Casket bearers were her grandchildren Chris Goergen, Matt Schreurs, Sara Christensen, Chad Christensen, Heather Krier, Shelly Christensen. Honorary bearers were Pat, Ryan, Sean, Terry and Erin Goergen, Brian Christensen, Amy Norby, Holly Nelson, Tina, Kelli and Shannon Christensen.

Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen was in charge of arrangements.
