Urban H. Wiederholt, 78, of Le Mars, formerly of Oyens, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Urban Henry Wiederholt was born Nov. 25, 1926, on a farm south of Remsen, the son of Ben and Amanda (Schierholt) Wiederholt. He was raised on that farm and attended country school. He graduated from Union Township High School in 1943. Urban and his brother Leonard farmed together for two years before Urban took a position with the Blaue Oil Company in Le Mars. Later Urban worked for the Kramer Food Store in Remsen.

On April 17, 1950, Urban and Rita Delperdang were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Urban and Rita would make their home and start raising their children on a farm north of Oyens. In 1964, Urban accepted a position with Plymouth County as a maintainer operator. The family moved from the farm into the town of Oyens. He operated the maintainer for Plymouth County until his health forced him to retire in 1991. Urban and Rita had lived in Le Mars since July of 2000. He enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, and loved to fish.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rita, who resides in Le Mars; a son, Mark of Sioux City; two daughters, Mary Ellen Cabeen of Le Mars and Theresa Nilles and her husband, Tim of Knoxville; five grandchildren, Carrie Pinkerton and her husband, Steve, Chad Nilles, Jennifer Kuiken and her husband, Jason, Travis Delaney and his wife, Kristi, and Jessica Delaney; great-grandchildren Coultan and Blayton Nilles, Brady and Ethan Kuiken; a brother, Bernard Wiederholt and his wife, Elaine of Le Mars; sisters-in-law Helen Wiederholt of Le Mars, Blanche Wiederholt of Remsen and Aggie Wiederholt of Granville; a brother-in-law, Frank Beckmann of Remsen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Vitus, Ermin, Luverne, Leonard, Marvin; and a sister, Verena Beckmann.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Kevin Richter will officiate. A luncheon will follow the funeral at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Parish Hall in Le Mars. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Urban's grandchildren.
