Young Girl Dies
Was Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Burke, of Akron
Akron Register-Tribune: Relatives and friends alike were deeply grieved to learn of the death of Irene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Burke, on Saturday, December 8, 1923, a t St. Joseph's hospital in Omaha, Neb., where she had gone for treatment for sarcoma.
Irene Lucile Burke was born November 21, 1909, in Akron, Iowa, and at the time of her death was 14 years and 17 days old. While she had been ailing for two years, gradually growing worse each day, she was a patient sufferer and at the hospital was known as she little sunshine girl. In spite of her suffering and operations, she was able to keep up with her class and this year was enrolled as a member of the Freshman class of the Akron High school. She united with the Christian church October 6, 1918, and daily she walked with Jesus. She was a kind and thoughtful child and a general favorite with all.
Besides her parents, she is mourned by her sister, Izetta, and baby brother, Ronald, along with numerous other relatives, and a host of friends who unite in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Akron, Tuesday, at 2 p. m., E. C. Davis, the pastor, officiating. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: John Burke, of Sugar Creek, Mo.; Rev. and Mrs. Roy Crocker and children, of Ute, Iowa Mrs. Al Calhoon and daughters, Lillie and Nettie, Mrs. Ed Jolley, Mrs. Oliver Gernhart, Mrs. Clarence Barr and Roy Calhoon, all of Sioux City.
