Francis W. Delperdang, 82, of Marcus, died peacefully Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.
Francis was born June 24, 1922, at Le Mars, the son of Peter and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Meis) Delperdang. He attended school at St. Catherine's in Oyens. He received his GED in 1971.
Francis married Rita Weber on June 19, 1947 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. They farmed 40 years near Oyens and Marcus. Francis also drove a school bus for Holy Name and Remsen Union Schools. He worked at the Oyens and Marcus Lockers as a meat cutter.
Francis and Rita retired in 1987 and moved to Marcus. He had a wood working shop in their home which he enjoyed until his eyesight failed.
He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and visiting family and friends.
He was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Francis and Rita celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June of 1997.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rita of Marcus; three daughters, Mary Wiltgen of Sioux City, LaVonne Delperdang of Sacramento, Calif., and Donna Mousel and her husband, Gary of Le Mars; four sons, Mike and his wife, Wanda, Paul and his wife, Dottie, Daniel and his wife, Mary, and Glen Delperdang and his wife, Christina all of Le Mars; nine grandchildren, Doug and Glenda Wiltgen, David and Montina Wiltgen, Bradley Wiltgen, Aaron and Stacy Rolfes, Tracy, Ryan, Andrea, Roxanne and Aaron Delperdang; three great-grandchildren, Nathan and Reese Wiltgen and Hannah Rolfes; two step-grandsons, Tony Orban and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Alex and Samantha, Scott Orban and his wife, Kari, and their children, Racquel and Nicole, and a step-granddaughter, Tonya Risinger. Francis is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Konz and her husband, Robert, Rita Wiederholdt and Sister Janet Delperdang, and two sisters-in-law, Flornie Weber and Lois Even and her husband, Jay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mildred Kinney and her husband, Joe; one brother, Ralph Delperdang; a grandson, Chris Delperdang; three brothers-in-law, Joseph Weber, Tom Weber and Urban Wiederholt, and one sister-in-law, Mary Augustine and her husband, Joseph.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Burial will be at Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus. Visitation begins after 2 p.m. today (Thursday) with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all at the Earnest -- Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
