Kathryn Blum, 95, of Remsen, died Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen following a lengthy illness.
Services and burial were Feb. 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.
Kathryn was born November 6, 1920, in rural Remsen, the daughter of Peter and Catherine (Weiler) Thill. She was raised in the Remsen area and received her education in both the rural school system and St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen.
On Oct. 11, 1932, she married Gilbert Blum in Remsen, where they made their home. She did seamstress work in her home for many years. Gilbert died Dec. 27, 1993. She had been a resident of Happy Siesta since Sept. 24, 1999.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the church guild.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Marilyn and Gene Hewitt of Sioux City; two grandsons, Rod Hewitt and his wife, Kim and Dereck Hewitt and his special friend, Tish, all of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Norbert (Eva) Budden of Granville, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Edmund (Bertha) Thill of Remsen.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, John and his wife, Blanche, Dominic and his wife, Sylvia, Al and his wife, Agnes, Vernon and his wife, Grace “Pat” and Edmund; two sisters, Mary and her husband, Felix Kunkel and Josephine Thill; and a brother-in-law, Norbert Budden.
