LAST RITES FOR BRUNO HARTMANN HELD LAST FRIDAY

Had Resided is Akron and Vicinity For Past Eighteen Years

As noted in these columns last week, Bruno J. Hartmann passed away at his home in this city at 3:20 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, September 6, 1938, aged 70 years, 5 months and 25 days. He began to fail in health early last July and was compelled to take his bed the 29th of August, gradually declining, in spite of all that medical skill and loving care could accomplish, until the final summons came.

Bruno Janssen Hartmann was born March 12, 1868 in Strackhold, Eastfresea, Germany, where he was also baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. In 1894 he came to America, making his headquarters in the vicinity of LeMars, Iowa, where he remained until 1901, when he went to Lennox, S. D. He was united in holy wedlock with Miss Margaretha Theilen on April 7, 1903, and to this union was blessed with ten children—six sons and four daughters. One daughter preceded him into eternity. They lived near Lennox, S. D., for eighteen years, then moving back to Plymouth county, Iowa in the vicinity of Akron in 1920, engaging in farming until last spring, when he and his family moved to Akron.

He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife and six sons and three daughters, Mrs. Ellis Eichacker, of Akron; Anna Hartmann, of Sioux City; Rudolf, Gerhard, Bruno, Margaretha, Adolf,, Carl and Raymond Hartmann, of Akron; also one grandchild and one sister, in Germany, besides other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Hartman was an upright, industrious citizen, a kind and devoted husband and father, and a loyal friend and helpful neighbor, ever ready to do a good turn where needed. His genial presence will be greatly missed by relatives and acquaintances.

Funeral services held Friday afternoon at 1:45 at the family home and at 2 o’clock in Trinity Lutheran church, were conducted by Rev. Fred A. Meske. There was a large attendance at the services. The pallbearers were Wm. Dirks, Henry Steinert, Aug. Meske, Ebbo Willas, Frank Eden and Adolf Schsuter. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives who came from a distance were : Mrs. Dick Dirks and children, Edward, Ernest, Frieda, Grace and Laura, of Verdi, Minn.; Mrs. George Schmeyer, of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Richard Dirks, Charles Dirkks and sons, Richard and Howard; R. A. Zabel and daughter, Viola, of Harrisburg, S. D.
